Media Instructor
(Part-Time, hourly contract)

About Press Pass TV
Press Pass TV produces hard-hitting news content with a commitment to socially responsible action. We are dedicated to making a positive difference in the lives of youth and the Boston community. Press Pass TV is a youth led adult supported non-profit whose mission is to produce socially responsible video journalism, which promotes a more diverse media, empowers communities, and increases civic engagement.  We believe in the power of media literacy and media production to empower communities. We have been featured in Positive Teens Magazine, Boston Neighborhood Network, Cambridge Community Access, After School Scene, Teen Voices, through the Mayor of Boston’s Press Office and Teens in Print.

About the Position:
The Press Pass TV Site Based Program is an innovative media literacy and video journalism production program, tailored to the needs of each site individually. We work with community based organizations and schools to create an impactful curriculum, based around our proven production process. At the end of each workshop series, students leave with at least one completed news story, and the passion and compassion to make a difference for their lives and their communities. Facilitators possess a unique set of skills, including knowledge of video production and experience working with middle and/or high school aged youth. This position is an exciting opportunity to empower young people with 21st century tools to make media that moves change. At this important time in our history, Press Pass TV wants to work with inventive educators and producers to give our students the strongest chances for success.

Position involves
• Implementing media literacy and production curriculum based in social justice values
• Train students in developing and producing news content
• Maintaining communication between Site-Based staff and Press Pass TV staff at least weekly
• Completing regular evaluation forms
• Ensuring that students complete their work

Desired Skills/Experience
• Knowledge of and involvement in video production
• Passionate about Social Justice
• Understanding of and/or interest in media literacy and/or media justice
• Excellent communication skills, and a commitment to representing Press Pass TV in the community
• Must be comfortable with phone and email networking
• Knowledge of industry standard software, including Final Cut Pro
• Commitment to making a difference

Compensation and Location
Contract employment, $16-18 per hour. Facilitators report to work at the site of programming.

Press Pass TV is seeking interns for the following positions:

Freelance Program Mentor Internship
(Part-Time)

About the Position:
The Freelance Program Mentors are responsible for working with a team of 3 high school
students in conceiving and producing two, three to seven minute news stories during a 3 month internship cycle. In addition to mentoring the students through their production process, Mentors attend 6-8 professional training workshops with their students during the 3 month session. Conducted by local industry professionals, workshops will focus on such topics as interview techniques, production management, news ethics, and tips on navigating the business of broadcast journalism. Interns are encouraged to use the workshops for their own professional development as well as making sure that their students attend.

Position involves
• Being the liaison between students in the Freelance Program and Press Pass TV staff.
• Assist students in conceiving, developing and producing news content
• Attend 6-8 bi-weekly professional training sessions
• Fill out weekly production assessment/review forms.
• Ensure that students complete their work
• Serve as point person and ambassador for PPTV in your campus community

Desired Skills/Experience
• Knowledge of and involvement in video production and/or journalism
• Good listener and culturally sensitive
• Understanding of media literacy and/or media justice
• Computer skills—internet, email, word
• Oral and written communications
• Must be comfortable with phone and email networking
• Art, design, or media skills a plus

Video Editing and Distribution Internship
(Part-Time)

About the Position:
The Video Editing and Distribution Intern is an exciting opportunity for a college student who is looking to hone their editing skills, or to build skills in distribution management and implementation. This internship will entail working with staff and youth to edit feature video news stories for digital distribution on PressPassTV.org. In addition, the intern will have the opportunity to learn about new models of distribution with hands on application, researching new and innovative ways to distribute Press Pass TV’s exciting content. This intern will play a pivotal role in building relationships and determining the way that Press Pass TV is viewed in the City of Boston, the country and the world.

Position involves
• Attend weekly staff meetings
• Assist students in editing video news content
• Play a role in the office management (answering phones, etc.)
• Research and develop new models of distribution for Press Pass TV
• Build important relationships with potential distributors and vendors
• Serve as point person and ambassador for PPTV in your campus community

Desired Skills/Experience
• Knowledge of and involvement in video production and/or journalism
• Good listener and culturally sensitive
• Understanding of media literacy and/or media justice
• Computer skills—internet, email, word
• Oral and written communications
• Must be comfortable with phone and email networking
• Art, design, or media skills a plus

Development Internship
(Part-Time)

About the Position:
This internship plays a key role in creating a sustainable funding base for the ongoing work of Press Pass TV. This is a great internship for someone interested in going into nonprofit work, or events planning. The Development intern will work closely with the full-time staff to set fundraising priorities, research grants, and prepare proposals. Additionally, the Development intern will take a leadership role in planning other fundraising initiatives, such as annual appeal letters, fundraising events, and special campaigns. This internship is an incredible opportunity to pick up marketable skills in fundraising and development, and to build these skills in a supportive, enriching and exciting environment.

Position involves

• Play a role in the office management (answering phones, etc.)
• Assist in the preparation of grant proposals
• Play a leadership role in fundraising initiatives
