About Us

Press Pass TV is a youth adult partnership non-profit whose mission is to produce socially responsible video journalism, which promotes a more diverse media, empowers communities, and increases civic engagement. We work with Boston area youth to produce short news segments that tackle underrepresented social justice issues and celebrates those organizations and individuals working to make their community a better place. Middle school and high school age students engage in all aspects of production, from developing questions to editing video. All content is distributed through the web, to local classrooms, across all local access stations in Massachusetts, and on national TV networks like Free Speech TV.

Our content is intended to promote civic awareness and action. We create curriculum around our segments, hold meetings to continue the discussion of issues raised in our work, and support local campaigns for civic action by producing stories on their initiatives.

To understand the need for Press Pass TV, just compare the two videos below. The first is a video we produced about a shooting that took place in the Boston neighborhood of Dorchester. In our version, we address the issue of how the neighbors attempted to alert the police of impending danger but did not get a sufficient response. Furthermore, we highlight the fact that the residents of this neighborhood would like to organize a neighborhood watch to prevent events like this from happening again.

Once you watch our version, watch the same story produced by a local NBC affiliate. In their version you will see they sensationalize the event and totally avoid the points that allow for any sort of action to correct the issue.

Take a minute to see for yourself why Press Pass TV plays an important role in the communities of Boston.
